That exactly it Howie - the President is playing up the notion of people being murdered by Islamofascists simply because of a perceived falling in the polls."I am concerned that every time something happens that's not good for President Bush, he plays this trump card, which is terrorism," Dean told Wolf Blitzer on CNN's "Late Edition" yesterday. "It's just impossible to know how much of this is real and how much of this is politics, and I suspect there's some of both in it."
This is exactly why you were determined to be 100% unsuitable for the office of President - because your Tin-Foil Hat™ is a little too tight.
Posted by Mad Mikey at August 3, 2004 11:36 AM | TrackBackFrankly, Mikey, I think the whole "Alert System" is useless. I mean, first of all, what are we supposed to do? Be on the lookout? For what? I work in NYC and it seems to me that the authorities are doing everything in their power to prevent another attack. What can I do? Other than respectfully comply with their searches of my vehilcle? I'm not complaining, there are times I've wished they were a little more thorough, especially when I'm following a cube truck into one of the tunnels, but seriously, what are we, the public, supposed to do?
I guess if I notice someone leaving a package or briefcase behind in a train terminal or airport, I could alert authorities, but what else constitutes suspicious behavior? I think the whole thing is more to show terrorists that we are "on the lookout".
Frankly, I don't need to know everything the Government does to protect me and if the authorities are close to busting a terrorist cell I wouldn't want that blown because someone felt they had to raise the Terror Alert. Just let me know when it's time to get outta Dodge before something blows up that's all. I don't need all the Drama.

Posted by: deuddersun at August 4, 2004 05:25 AMYet if we didn't have some sort of alert system, and, cod forbid, something happens, then the govt. will take a big hickey for not warning of imminent danger. I think the alert system also puts the potential terrorists on notice that there may be heightened awareness. Who knows? Maybe upping the alert has caused a terrorist cell to scratch plans in the past.

Scariest part is that we'd even LET him run for President, looking like that. Why not just elect Charles Manson? His campaign could be "Blowing the Tits Offa the Entire Planet", which is what all the rest of 'em put together wanna do anyway, but at least Charlie's honest about it... which is more than I can say for any of the others of 'em.
