Christmas 2010

I know I'm not as active on this blog as I should be (believe me, I wish I was) but I'd still like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas!

May your Christmas be a cheery one and shared with family & friends.

See you in 2011.

This is a test post. I'm trying to work out the OLD kinks in the system and working with MT 2.64 isn't easy.....it's like working with DOS.

Wow! Another Blog Entry!

I'm working on getting this blog "up and running" while also dealing with archive issues.

Just wanted to let those that still stop by to know that I'm still here (as my previous post stated) and that I'm starting to get the 'blog itch' again, i.e. I'm starting to get motivated to blog on a daily basis again.

On a slightly ominus note, I'll be turning 43 in a few weeks. Man....getting into your 40's isn't all it's cracked up to be; it's bad enough that I can remember Jimmy Carter being president.

Stay tuned.

Still STILL Here

It's been quite a while since I've posted anything of value....or of non-value for that matter. I don't know why I've lost interest in blogging.....maybe it happened around when President Clown Shoes was elected back in November 2008, but I think it was just a coincidence.

Just wanted to let anyone that stops by here know that I'm still alive and kicking - I've just been preoccupied with life and health issues. Nothing serious - just annoying.

E-Mail Address Change

While I was attempting to figure out how to eliminate the thousands of spam messages I get every month to my blog e-mail account, I decided to make a small change; instead of sending something to me with the name MADMIKEY.....just take out the MAD part.

That's right folks - the e-mail addy will now be: M-I-K-E-Y @ the normal address....and of course, remove the HYPHENS.

BTW, does anyone have a suggestion as to how do I eliminate spam messages from my blog account? It's mainly the 'CANNOT DELIVER' messages that I get sent because of spam messages being sent supposedly from my account, like from 'aggs@madmikey.mu.nu'......you know what I mean?

Smoking

(via PDA)

Had an unfortunate thing happen the other day - the only computer in the house finally gave up the ghost and overheated itself and severed of any/all connections to the Internet.

And lemme tell you it sucks.

I'll tell you it was a Dell notebook and I'm told this common with Dell computers. The lesson here is: do not rely on a Dell - especially if your income is made with a Dell.

We've got a new computer on its way and when it gets here, my wife will be much relived to get back to working & I can blog on a regular PC.

See you here in a couple of days!

Okay Class....

Let's review some basic blogosphere edicate:

  1. My blog, my rules.
  2. I reserve the right to ban asshats.
  3. The definition of what exactly constitutes an asshat is solely at my discretion.
  4. Free discourse and open debate are welcome here!
  5. Free discourse and open debate does not give you the right to be an asshat.
  6. I reserve the right to be an asshat myself.
  7. I shall exercise Diety-like actions at my discretion and delete whatever I deem to be written in an asshat-like manner.
  8. When in doubt, see Rule #1.
I've had to make this post because of what I'd consider asshat-like behavior in my comments section lately.

Most of you that know me in real life (the meatsphere) and those that know me soley here in the blogosphere know that I'm more than easy going and will tolerate quite a lot, but sometimes you have to stand up and piss along the edges of your sandbox just to remind everyone of Rule #1.

Code of Conduct?

I haven't really read much - or paid much attention to - the Kathy Sierra blog stuff that popped up on the radar last week. I honestly don't have the time to dig for all the background information to make an informed decision on it one way or the other.

However - the one thing that I heard about was this proposed 'Code of Conduct' for bloggers.

Ex-squeeze me?!?

While I understand the (possible) urgency for some sort of unspoken rules and/or guidelines for blogging, it seems just a bit.....over the top IMHO.

Besides, most of these proposed tenets are ones that I more-or-less follow. But just in case you've missed it, here are the simple rules for leaving comments here:

  1. My Blog, My Rules.

  2. Dissent is tolerated.
This means that you can disagree with me on what I post about.

  3. Ass-hats are not.
This means that if you come across like a bezerk pre-schooler in your comments, it'll be deletion city for you.

  4. Keep foul language to a minimum, if at all.
Use common sense on this one - if anything, use lots of asteriks: * * *

  5. I reserve the right to be an ass-hat.
And when I am, I'll admit it if I want to.

  6. I reserve the right to ban ass-hats and spammers.
Here in the House of Mikey, I am the Evil Overlord and can act accordingly.

  7. When in doubt, refer to Rule #1.
There - so simple that even a barking moonbat can understand it.

And of course, I reserve the right to amend these rules whenever the mood strikes me. Seem silly? See Rule #1.

I'll be down-n-out for awhile.....it would seem that Time Warner Cable isn't going to let me have cable TV nor Internet for free; we can't keep up with some bills for the moment......so we'll be reading a lot for the next few weeks to entertain ourselves.

I guess I wasn't paying attention but the MuNu chunk of the blogsphere sustained at least two denial of service attacks on Saturday.

Our blog-diety, Pixy, shored up the firewall protecting the MuNu servers and we're back in business. Pixy so rocks!!

I haven't read anything as to indicate why MuNu was attacked - I guess the DOS perpetratiors just don't like Munuvians......

Hotlinking Assknobs

Rob over at Left & Right has been having trouble with assknobs stealing his bandwidth by 'hotlinking' photos from his site.

Well, Rob dealt with the problem in a manner that is fitting and I too have taken to utilizing his method.

If you're one of the assknobs from MySpace that came back wondering why those photos you've glommed onto have changed, then here's your one warning:

Take the offending HTML code off your site immediately or you'll find gay porn there.

Here's one of those asshats and the 'updated' image (about half-way down the page listed under 'Heroes'.....

Here's another assknob - and this clown cannot even insert the HTML code correctly! What a moron....

Old Post Remembered

Here's something I wrote a year ago that had me howling at describing the results of a quiz in school:

Anyway....I think I did decently on it, but considering the vast amount of puzzled looks on the rest of the students in the lecture hall I take a little comfort in knowing that the bell curve for this quiz was nuked....twice.

I asked one guy coming out of the lecture hall as I was if he 'kicked ass or got his ass kicked'. He replied: I got raped.

Yup - the bell curve was nuked and then sprayed with machine-gun fire afterwards for good measure.....

Big NOTE: I am in no way touting my writing skills as being worthy of a Pulitzer - just howlling/giggling my ass off at my ability to describe how I felt after a hard quiz.

Blog Housekeeping

I've updated/modified the 'Links' section over on the right-hand side - mostly removing links that are dead (my definition of dead is no update in over two months).

If anyone comes across a dead/inactive link, let me know. If I've de-linked you and you feel that your site is still 'operational', drop me a line and I'll put it back up.

SIDE NOTE: I've only purposefully de-linked one person because they were IMO acting like an ass-hatted clown and that was Maria; she was (and still is I suppose) suffering from BDS and the 'sheer horror' that happened in New Orleans and wasn't keen on allowing anyone to contradict her. Hey - her blog, her perogative.....but it's intellecutally dishonest IMO.

Also, if anyone thinks that there's a link that should be included, let me know again; I'll check it out and see if it's something IMHO that deserves a link.....it's not like I've got people flooding my e-mail with recommendations you know....

  2. SWWNBN (aka Cindy Sheehan)
  3. Michael Moore
  4. Arianna Huffington
  5. Any or all of the retards from Air America
  6. Any Hollywood star that doesn't have a Master's or a Ph.D in Foreign Relations
  7. Any musicians that also don't have a Master's or a Ph.D in Foreign Relations

The Liberal Heart

Geoffrey over at Dog Snot Diaries notes the.....hypocrisy of liberals much like I have in the past except for the fact that these liberals condone and PROMOTE rape as a retalitory weapon:

Sally says: "Someone needs to offer to rape Malkin with a reinforced steel dildo heated to 300F." Wait.....aren't liberals for tolerance? Is this the same Sally that laments the pain the Iraqis are suffering? She wants to see Malkin raped? Maybe she was joking. What do her cohorts have to say?

This rational moonbat agreed with her. "Fuckin' A-right. She's got it coming. If it wasn't for idiot wingnuts like Gordon, she'd be doing 4 ping-pong ball shows a night in a Bangkok whorehouse. There's not a got-damn thing that could be said about her bad enough for what she does daily here in the country she hates."

The chicago dyke doesn't advocate violence, "i just hate violence against women, all women, even dumb fascist cunts who "deserve" it."

So we now we see beyond the curtain, wizard to see exactly what liberals really want in their heart-of-hears.

Michael Savage was right: Liberalism IS a mental disorder.

UPDATE/ADDEnDUM: Unless Atrios decides to edit and/or delete these nasty comments least they make him look complicitous, here is the orginal comment thread where these nuggets of humanity might be found.

Good news! An acquaintance of mine - Old Buick Tanker - that helped adjust the attitudes of those anti-war folks at Activist San Diego has now entered the blogsphere.

Between Yogimus the Hugarian Barbarian, myself, and OBT we managed to cause the forums at ASD to be shutdown; I guess they got tired of having the truth pushed in their faces and 'took their ball and went home'.

OBT - welcome to the wonderful world of blogging and fighting the good fight!!

Into the Breach Once Again

Okay - I got 'dumped' by Google Ads for some inane reason, so now I'm trying this again with two new blog ad companies.

While I'm not normally a 'click freak' and looking to make a living off my blog, I am shooting for something a bit more noble: cable internet.

What's this you say?

Well, here in San Diego one of the cable companies - the one that I'm using that is - is offering a 'package deal' for it subscribers. The 'deal' includes digital phone (local & long distance including Canada), digital cable (which I already get with no premium channels) and Road Runner internet service. The price is less than what I'm currently paying for SBC local phone service, Sprint long distance, digital cable, AND dial-up internet service. It just seems 'logical' to get the premium services for the same amount of money I'm already paying...

So, why am I posting about this and WTF does this have to do with blog advertising?

Well, getting this new 'package deal' isn't the problem or the direct reason I'm posting about it - getting the high speed cable internet throughout my house is.

I've got three computers in the house - two desktops and a notebook - that will (sooner or later) connected to the cable modem, but after I saw the prices for the wireless router and the wireless adapter cards for the two desktops....well, that's why I'm trying these blog ads once again....trying to get the cash to get this all hooked up in Casa del Mikey de la Loco.

I'm gonna have to shell out close to $160 to get the house 'wired' and to really take advantage of the package deal.

So....with that in mind, I'd like to grovel and ask that everyone click on those ads to help Mikey save poor kittens from evil mercenary PETA commandos.

I'm normally not the type to put my financial problems out on the net for discussion and I'm not looking for the 'pity' factor - just need people to click away.

Click away to the left - Mikey needs a new broad-band router and a couple of kidneys....

Still Tweaking the Site

I think that I've gotten the IE6 bug worked out thanks to the template designer Eric. Now if I can get the banner to line up with the left- and right-side menus....

Also.....those of you that continue to be the slave of Microsoft's Internet Explorer will now be able to view the site correctly.

Oh and check out the comments box: not only did I finally get the text in the box to move a little to the left, I've also integrated the new banner that is up top.

UPDATE: Now if I can get the fracking comments to 'pop up' like they used to instead of switching to another screen......grrrr.

Template Tweeking

I'm trying to change the format of my blog from two column to three column.

I'm getting assistance from the Munuvian Universe and there will be some tweeking required, so be patient with the work-in-progress.....it's a pain in the butt, however it's something that I've been working towards for a long time.

UPDATE: I've gotten most of the problems sorted out, but if you're getting 'overlapping', it is probably because you're using Internet Explorer (I got the same thing when I logged on using my kid's computer).

Quite honestly, I'm not sure how to fix that since I've been using Mozilla Firefox for the last year. I'll see what I can do about that....

Okay, it's been almost a year since I emigrated to the MuNuvian Universe (thanks once again Ms. Stevie!!) and I think it's time to clean up my blogroll.

Guide to Blogging

John Hawkins at Right Wing News has always been my guide in the do's and dont's of blogging. He has updated his infamous guide to new bloggers and here a portion of that guide:

25 Pieces Of Advice For Bloggers
  1. It's tempting -- even for me -- to get frustrated when some of the bigger bloggers don't link. But, don't let it get to you. Anybody with a big blog is busy and it's likely not personal if they don't link you.
  2. Keep in mind that even if you get a link from a big website, the overwhelming majority of those readers won't be back. So although there are exceptions, don't expect to make it big off of 1 or 2 posts.
  3. If you're going to be putting up multiple posts and then not posting for a while, put the best post on top. The number of readers drops significantly the further they have to go down the page.
  4. On the week-ends, expect your traffic to drop by roughly 40% whether you post or not.
  5. If you're going to send a promotional email out to other bloggers, make sure it's something worth promoting and try to keep it down to once or twice per week if possible. Send too many emails or promote posts of low quality and other bloggers will tune you out.
  6. Find ways to link to other blogs -- a lot. It's flattering to the blogger being linked and it may draw their attention to what you're writing. Of course, that means they may link you back.
And after looking at his new guide, I can say that almost most of these ideas are ones that I already follow - especially the 'dedication to posting', i.e., I post (or try to anyways) almost everyday.

And I'm hoping that John will follow-through on Point #1 and acknowledge my presence in the blogsphere....along with Michelle Malkin.[/kidding]

Michelle's New Tagline

Michelle Malkin comtemplates needing a new tagline:

TIME FOR A NEW TAGLINE?

From the unhinged magazine, Znet:

Media mavens such as Michelle Malkin pollute the minds of readers with ideas that are so emotionally-driven, devoid of logic, and packed with ringing endorsements of American hubris that that they leave critical thinkers who have a social conscience reeling with nausea.
Take a Dramamine already, dude.
I thought I'd help her and think up some new taglines for her:
  • Michelle Malkin
...suspended somewhere between meltdown and kicking your ass.

  • Michelle Malkin
....not the timid chick you thought she was.

  • Michelle Malkin
....cause she finds your lack of faith disturbing[/Darth Vader].

  • Michelle Malkin
...likes ice cream and hates idiots!

  • Michelle Malkin
...still ignoring Mad Mikey for over a year!

  • Michelle Malkin
...try to prove her wrong....she DARES you....
They're just off the top of my head while sitting in Control Systems class so if you think they suck - bite me.

No Fasion Advice Please

Davey doesn't mince words:

I Don't Care What You Think

Oh, and don’t sign me up for Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. Someone already tried that once and it didn’t sit well with me. Just having those fruits in my room will probably bring down the resale value of just about everything I own.

[...]
Personally, I’d rather have a pap smear done on my butt than go out and try to dance to music I don’t like and make an idiot out of myself. If I’m going to make an idiot out of myself I’m going to do it on my own terms.
This is why I like Dave: he doesn't mince words and he speaks what he means.

Screen Shot of the Day

Nothing really much on the news radar that I'm up to blogging about....

...so I thought I'd share my latest desktop view which is the F-35C Joint Strike Fighter (Carrier Variant) like I posted about previously.

The only thing 'new' on my radar scope is that I'm starting to feel the effects of taking four classes this quarter; it seems like I've got a freakin midterm to study for constantly. This week I've got one in Digital Circuits (Thursday) and then I've got another one for Electromagnatism (next Tuesday).

And as my wife pointed out to me this morning: 'You're the one that signed up for all those classes!'.....and she's right - it was my choice. But the 'upside' to taking four classes in addition to working part-time, helping my daughter understand complex fractions/algebra, and dialysis is that if it doesn't kill me outright, then I'm four classes closer to graduating next year.

That's right - I've determined that if I keep my head up and don't drop dead from exhaustion that I'll be graduating with the Class of 2006 from UC San Diego with my Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.

Just typing about it makes me a lot more optimistic about everything - I'll finally have a freakin degree and can start working a normal job which will hopefully leat to a normal life, i.e. not constantly studying.

The Dark Side of the Blogsphere

Got a question for y'all:

Should I embrace the Dark Side of the Blogsphere and put ads up here?
While I was sitting in class this morning - not taking notes like I should have been - I got IM'd by an entity that for the moment shall remain nameless that basically pitched the idea of putting up an ad on my site.

Huh I thought - Never really thought about that too much.

Actually, I have thought of it - back when I was debating the format of this blog, i.e. two column format or three columns. I basically decided that having three columns would be good if I had a buttload of links to slap up here, but I don't. I could/would also use that extra column to put up some sort of ads that might - might garner some funding for me. Not enough to buy anything really...just enough to offset my blogging addiction.

So the question is: should I?

It would be nice to do something constructive in a financial manner from all the blogging I do. But the thing that makes me wonder is do I get enough traffic here to generate any appreciable income from those ads?

Additionally, for the most part I've always considered my *cough* contribution(s) to the blogsphere to be mainly for my personal enjoyment; it's not like I've influenced anyone with any of my thought-provoking quips about not being an ass-hatted clown - created a few chuckles, but no apparent influence. In my blogging experience(s), I've mostly gained more personal insight into politics and some-what improved my righting skillz.

As I said - it's just a thought.....but a thought that makes you think Hmmmm....maybe, just maybe I could....

UPDATE: At the advice of several commenters, I've submitted applications for two different ad sponsors - Google Ads and the other one that's still being discretely not named.

Will I be approved? Dunno, but I figured what the hell, let's see if anything comes of this and maybe - just maybe - I'll be able to generate enough income through this that I can do some things with this site and a domain I've reserved that I've been wanting to do for some time.

Thanks to all that made recommendations!! I really DO appreciate the feedback!

All Whine, All The Time

When I first saw this yesterday, I thought huh....it'll be another Air America on the net and that was that.

Then I read about it again this morning and how Warren Beatty would be a part of it:

SOURCES: WARREN BEATTY TO BLOG!

The Observer has learned that Warren Beatty, the 68-year-old actor and director, will likely join a lineup of liberal all-stars who will "group blog" on a Web site to be launched next month by columnist Arianna Huffington.

"I probably will," Mr. Beatty said, on the phone from his production office in Los Angeles.

The "Huffington Report," as Ms. Huffington has dubbed it, will also feature such boldface bloggers as Senator Jon Corzine, David Geffen, Viacom co-chief Tom Freston, Barry Diller, Tina Brown and Gwyneth Paltrow. If the name seems to echo that of the Drudge Report—the mega-site operated by the rightward-tilting unofficial editorial director of America’s news cycle, Matt Drudge—well, it’s supposed to. And Mr. Beatty approved of that.

"I applaud the effort to tell the side of the story that Arianna Huffington seems to be engaged in," he said. Mr. Beatty was all too aware, he said, of the power Mr. Drudge has to steer the American media.

You know....I'm no huge impact on the blogsphere, but I do know this: you cannot just slap down some money on a domain name and think that you'll be a big hit.

Blogging in my opinion isn't just sitting down each day and banging out X number of words like so many chimpanzees with typewriters. It takes a commitment to convey your thoughts on all things big and small, famous and infamous, relavent and inane.

And this 'all-liberal' blog will end up like Air America: left-of-center whining that's subsidized by rich patrons of the whining arts.

Cat Herding

Just when you thought that they couldn't loose their minds any more up in San Francisco, they go and prove you wrong.

From Personal Democracy Forum:

San Francisco May Regulate Blogging

Just when you thought the Federal Election Commission had it out for the blogosphere, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors took it up a notch and announced yesterday that it will soon vote on a city ordinance that would require local bloggers to register with the city Ethics Commission and report all blog-related costs that exceed $1,000 in the aggregate.

Blogs that mention candidates for local office that receive more than 500 hits will be forced to pay a registration fee and will be subject to website traffic audits, according to Chad Jacobs, a San Francisco City Attorney.

The entire Board is set to vote on the measure on April 5th, 2005. I wonder if they'll be forced to register their own blogs!

The legislation was written by Supervisor Sophie Maxwell.

Normally, I don't like to link to forums as a source, but if you follow the link you'll find the actual Board of Supervisors documentation.

And if this is a late April Fool's prank, it's a good one cause it just boggles me as to why these kooks would even consider trying to regulate blogging within the city limits. That would be like trying to herd cats with a snow plow....

Kiss My Ass

When I initially saw this bit that Michelle Malkin was blogging about, I didn't really pay much attention; my mind was on a midterm that I just finished this afternoon.

When I went back and started reading some of it, my thought was you can kiss my white ass. This bit from Right-Wing Nuthouse:

What kind of regulations?

A link to a candidates website could be considered a political contribution. That’s right. The Federal Election Commission is trying to determine the best way to quantify the monetary value of a link for purposes of determining how much of a contribution should be charged against a blogger’s $2000 personal campaign contribution limit.

Can you say nightmare?

It may become illegal to link back to a candidate’s web site unless it’s counted as a campaign contribution.

It's a bit convoluted and I'd daresay that it might be everyone 'over-reacting' like some people do when the subject of the Patriot Act comes up, but I'd recommend going through some of the links at Michelle's and see what it's all about.

And if you think that this isn't something localized to right-of-center bloggers - think again.....yeah, kiss my white ass....repeatedly.

Making Lemonade - San Diego Style

Da Goddess sent a message to one of her trolls concerning several comments that he left.

It's a lengthy letter, but it's well-worth it.

Note to Self: Do not piss Joanie off - ever....

Dear Carl

I will try to show a bit of restraint here.

I'm tired of the bullshit.

We will set aside the fact that you believe in communism. Let's just address the bulk of you in sweeping generalizations, since that seems to be the only way in which you see those of us who believe in Democracy. Fair is fair, right?

You came here asking how the people of Iraq could possibly be free and you wanted examples. As I expected, all you offered as your proof that they are not was an opinion piece written by someone from the Anti-War and International Action Center. A very biased source if ever I saw one.

Again, I'm tired of the bullshit.

Since September 11, 2001, you and the many groups with whom you associate have contended that George Bush and the Republican party were behind the attacks on American citizens on American soil. It was either that or the evil empire that capitalism built that brought the attention of the terrorists unto us.

I've listened as you and many other protesters insist that people around the world hate us because we are a nation built on dreams of a better life, of Liberty, of determining our own fate as long as we act within the guidelines that we call laws.

Time after time, I have listened as protesters claimed that everything this country stands for is wrong. I've listened and read how our ideals are flawed. I've driven past people holding upside down American flags painted with swastikas and signs claiming that we are little more than murderers.

I'm tired of the bullshit.

You and the other protesters claim to be interested in the basic needs of people around the world. Yet, I have seen you do little more than stand around yelling angry slogans. I have seen no one reaching out a helping hand.

Over a year ago, I became involved with an organization called Spirit of America. It's a non-partisan group of individuals interested in helping those in need. Specifically the people of Afghanistan and Iraq. People who have lived in fear, under brutal regimes, terrified to utter a single word of dissent against those who led their countries into poverty and despair. Through Spirit of America, I was able to help those people. We sent school and medical supplies. We raised money to help them build water treatment facilities, homes, education centers, hospitals, businesses, and the basic infrastructures for their cities so that they might live in places where they could access whatever they required to lead better lives.

Where were you? Where were the people who dress up in costumes and burn flags? Where were the hands that could have helped lift up the oppressed and guide them safely to their destinies - whatever they may be? Where?

I'll tell you where you were.

You were standing on the streets here in the good ol' United States of America. Safe from firing squads that the people in Afghanistan and Iraq would have had to face should they attempt the same.

You'll still be standing there next week, next month, next year. Because you refuse to accept reality.

And meanwhile, my friends and I were working to send REAL PEOPLE REAL MATERIALS to improve their existence. We came together to do good and to bring hope.

I also became involved with Protest Warrior as a means of providing a voice to all of my fellow countrymen and women who felt that they dare not speak out because they didn't want to face your taunts or threats. I wasn't afraid to speak out and I'm not afraid to speak out now. In America, all voices have the right engage in free speech. You and your friends claim that we are attempting to deny you your right to speak, but that's so very far from true. We're simply taking the opportunity to offer another perspective because, frankly, we've spent the last three years listening to the same stale complaints from protesters.

I am so very tired of the bullshit, Carl.

As I read through the opinion piece that you posted in my comments, I wasn't surprised by anything contained therein. I've heard it before and I know I'll hear it again. You have offered nothing new. I hear from you, verbatim, whatever it is that International A.N.S.W.E.R. or the International Action Center has deemed to be their official statement. You follow their script to the letter. You blindly mouth whatever they tell you, selfishly focused on your own agenda, doing nothing to actually help anyone. Heaven forbid you should see an ounce of good in anything.

From you and the other protesters, we get nothing but complaints and negativity. I have seen no effort on your part to do anything more than stand angrily and sneer at those who have actively sought to bring about change in the world.

Freedom was made possible in Afghanistan and Iraq by those willing to think beyond themselves. We may not be perfect in our attempts, but at least we're doing something. From the men and women in our military who give their time and their lives, to those of us who work here, on the home front, we're DOING - actively, physically, doing - something to ensure that others might know the sweet taste of hope and Liberty. We don't merely give lip service to our beliefs, we act on them.

Instead of sowing the seeds of discontent, we sow the seeds of freedom. We're willing to work to improve the lives of others. And where are you? Still on the corner with your mean-spirited signs and your angry faces. We seek to unite, you seek to bring division.

Sorry, but I'd much rather look at the smiling, happy, and hopeful faces of those who are waking up to freedom.

None of these groups you rally with want to see anything positive coming from the Middle East. No matter what happens, you will pick at the fiber of the happiness of the Afghanis and Iraqis, because it doesn't fit your agenda.

We who believe in Democracy are not so noble that we don't see the loss and the anguish that comes before the joy. We just happen to accept that change often comes from deep sorrow. We know that the innocent lives of those murdered by tyrants and despots can never be brought back to life by the casting of ballots. We know that the blood of our fathers, mothers, sons, and daughters sent to foreign lands is red and real. And yet, they were willing to go. So we accepted their decisions. We chose to accept their selfless sacrifices were worth the dream of eventual peace and Liberty. To claim anything less is to dishonor their spirits and to deny their families the legacy of true heroes.

Call me brainwashed and mindless. You've done it before. But you know what? At least I don't speak the same words that everyone else I know is speaking. I don't walk around with a scowl fixed to my face 24/7. I can smile, knowing that my actions have brought joy and hope to the lives of many. I can hold my head high, knowing that Iraq (and Afghanistan) is rising, like a phoenix, from the ashes of tyranny to the golden promise of Liberty.

I look forward to the day when you can think beyond yourself and your agenda, Carl. I just won't hold my breath waiting for it to happen.

And she has a point: practically all you hear from the Barking Moonbat Brigade™ is negativity. And I know this might sound cliché but there are two ways (basically) that you can perceive events in life: postively or negatively.

When I first started dating my soon-to-be wife, she would note frequently how I was a pessimist - always finding and noting the crappy things in life. She urged me to start thinking positively, if not for my own mental health then to spare her the same crappy attitude. And I started changing my thinking.

Now I tend to try to find the positive aspects of stuff happening; I think it really changed after 9/11 when there was that period of about a month afterwards when it seemed that with the exception of those dancing Palestinians that most people were 'depressed' about what had happened (and with good reason too).

At least, that's the way it was for me - I felt guilty when I popped a Poison tape into my truck's radio and blasted it cause I needed a change from listening to news radio constantly.

And my 'positive' thinking is still in play today - especially with the change in life that happened last November when I had to start doing hemodialysis.

A lot of my friends and coworkers almost always say the same thing: Oh man....that sucks!! (or words to that effect) when they hear about my condition. And I always tell them this: there are two ways to deal with this - positively or negatively cause no matter how I react to this change in life, it's still gonna be there and I'll have to contend with it anyway.

So instead of being depressed about how life has screwed me over...., I look at the brighter side of it:

  • Instead of saying whoa is me, I say Hey - I get a handicap parking permit!!
  • Instead of saying aww man - I have to go to dialysis three times a week!, I say Hey - I get a scheduled nap!
etc., etc.

This is what Joanie is trying to tell this Barking Moonbat (at least it's what I get from this) - lighten up and try to find the postive aspects of this and every other 'tragedy' in life. Not to ignore it like a mindless automaton, but to take the good with the bad and make the best of it.

While I cannot speak to whether this troll really needs it, I know that if you constantly are pissy about everything in life that you're gonna be miserable all the time. And life is too short to be moody throughout it.

Cat Blogging Friday

It's Friday and once again it's time to put up another cat.

This week - like last week - I'm gonna 'bend the rules' a bit and put up another cool 'cat'. This time it's an F-14 Tomcat doing a high-speed, low-level flyby right at flight deck level on the USS Stennis.

F-14 Tomcat Flyby And I'm here to tell you that seeing a gray blur such as this - only 20 yards away - it just freakin awesome!! The physical shock wave, the sound sooooo loud that the world trembles - it is something that cannot be truely described.....only felt.

Go ahead - you know you want to click the photo.....

Oooohhhh - He Said THIS!!

I've got a new secret troll/admirer that goes by the name theRAWdeal.

It would seem that Mr. RAW doesn't agree with my assesment(s) on how to combat certain social problems like rape or drunk driving.

Suprisingly, he/she/it had to take the critique over to Maria's place instead of leaving a comment here. The only reason I can gather is that he/she/it is:

  1. Afraid that I'll 'squash his freedom of speech' and delete it, or
  2. He/She/It has previously been benned from leaving a comment
Most of you know that I do not just arbitrarily delete comments I don't agree with. On the contrary, I leave them up and argue against them based on logic, reasoning, and facts.

Deleting comments outright is childish - unless they've been warned previously.

Well anyway.....what do I have to say about this critique? B-I-T-E me.

The 'Rules'

I was just over at Maria's place and took note of her losing her shit...again...over comments and having to take measures to ban someone.

Considering that she's deleted some of my comments - possibly with cause, but most likely cause I made her look foolish - I thought I'd re-post the 'Golden Rules' about commenting here:

And when I am, I'll admit it.

  6. I reserve the right to ban ass-hats and spammers.
Here in the House of Mikey, I am the Evil Overlord and can act accordingly.

  7. When in doubt, refer to rule #1.
There - so simple that even a barking moonbat can understand it.

Then again, maybe not....

Digital Brown Shirts vs. LGF

It's one thing to disagree with something that's posted on the Internet - specifically the 'blogsphere', but it's another to perpetraite a Denial Of Service attack:

WHERE'S LITTLE GREEN FOOTBALLS?

[...]

Whoever is responsible for the attacks should be hunted down and punished to the fullest extent of the law.

Someone out there wants to shut down LGF and shut up Charles Johnson and his commenters--the best in the blogosphere. Johnson deserves whatever support, linkage, traffic, tip jar donations you can share when his site is back up. And thanks, Charles, for doing what you do and not backing down.

It always amazes me that when some barking moonbat cannot stand to have another opinion floated that contradicts theirs or even makes them out to be a complete fool that they have to resort to the 'digital brown shirt' tactics like this.

IMO these morlocks are no better than pedophiles and deserve the same punishment - quartering.
