Here's something from LGF that made me just shake-my-head:
The European Union has solved Europe's problem with Islamic terrorism and jihad.Yes indeed, the über-intelligent peoples of the Old World have solved one of the greatest problems to face mankind in the 20th and 21st centuries: pretending that not speaking the words that aptly describe the threat will make said threat go away.By banning the words. (Hat tip: LGF readers.)
The European Union has drawn up guidelines advising government spokesmen to refrain from linking Islam and terrorism in their statements.Brussels officials have confirmed the existence of a classified handbook which offers "non-offensive" phrases to use when announcing anti-terrorist operations or dealing with terrorist attacks.
Banned terms are said to include "jihad", "Islamic" or "fundamentalist".
The word "jihad" is to be avoided altogether, according to some sources, because for Muslims the word can mean a personal struggle to live a moral life.
One alternative, suggested publicly last year, is for the term “Islamic terrorism” to be replaced by "terrorists who abusively invoke Islam".
An EU official said that the secret guidebook, or, "common lexicon", is aimed at preventing the distortion of the Muslim faith and the alienation of Muslims in Europe.
Last free human being out of Europe, please turn off the lights.
It's kind of like in the Harry Potter series of books where the wizarding community will refer to the greatest threat to them as 'He Who Will Not Be Named' instead of using his real name Voldemort.
And as for my usage of 'SWWNBN' instead of the proper name Cindy Sheehan, that's because she doesn't deserve to have a proper name used when discussing her psycho-babble.
Lovely.....using the ostrich technique to hide from danger. The only thing missing is plugging our ears and screaming 'Lah-Lah-Lah-Lah'.....

Wasn't Europe/Great Britain using the same tactics in the early 40s?

Hey Alec....
If you're really interested in helping people, send some of that love my way.
I promise: if you help pay for the rest of my education, I promise I won't enlist in the military.
Honestly - while I most probably will not agree with Mr. Baldwin on political issues, I do admire his acting and wouldn't have a problem accepting his financial assistance. Even better: he could help out my daughter in preparing for college.

Cancer Returns
Recently, White House spokesman Tony Snow announced that the cancer that he had beaten had returned.
Regardless of what you think of Tony and his work for the White House, this just plain sucks ass.
Click here and send Tony a supportive message; the e-mail link is in the upper right-hand corner that will fire up your preferred e-mail system.
(H/T to Michelle Malkin for jogging my memory about this today.)

You hate to see this happen to anybody. But Tony is one of those kind of guys that you just like as both a commentator and a public servant. So many of us like him on a personal level even though we have never met him. Tony is is my prayers.

Improvement
It's been a while (almost six weeks) since I posted about the 'Lovely Times' that I and my family were experiencing. I thought I'd post an update to it to let everyone know how we're doing.
Read More of "Improvement"Well, first off I want to thank those patrons who donated to my PayPal link on the sidebar. Sincerely: thank you!! While the monies donated didn't solve all of our financial problems, it did at least get us out of the denser part of woods.
Once again, it never ceases to amaze me that people can be able and willing to give someone....an almost complete strager money to help them along. It's the sort of thing that makes me put a little more faith into people as a whole and that there is hope for people in society.
For the most part, the fiasco that we found ourselves in concerning our past due rent was resolved mostly by my wife and the rest by family back east.
How so?
Well, without divulging too many details it was my wife who managed to come up with most (around $4,000) of the back rent; my family back east augmented the rest. My wife was able to borrow the money from someone who completely understood our situation and was willing to help and allow my wife to pay back the loan over the next few months.
And the 'good news' of all this is that we're officially caught up on rent - now we just pay the normal monthly amount and we're able to do that. We're still in deep for other finances and we're looking at all of our options, including backruptcy. Considering the B-word isn't something that we're taking lightly.....the situation is getting to be that bad and for the moment, all options are on the table.
And while the remaining financial woes are nothing to simply 'blow off', I am able to relax slightly because I don't have to worry about being evicted.
As I said - I just wanted to let everyone know that things are looking a little better these days and especially to thank everyone for their support and donations.
All done with "Improvement"?

Final Exams
(via PDA)
Yes indeed, it's the end of he Winter 2007 quarter which means it's time for Final Exams!!!
(cue 'evil' music)
(okay...enough 'evil' music)
Since I'm taking three classes, I have three final exams; oe this afternoon (engineering), Physics final on Thursday, and a History final on Friday.
The Physics final is just turning in my research paper on spacecraft propulsion systems and the History final will be analysis of several passages from the readings; both will be easy -- the physics paper willbe fun writing and history will be easy too.
However, the engineering final today is up in the air. To be honest, it hasn't been an interesting subject & I cannot say that I learned much (if anything) of the subject material.....we'll have to wait and see.
UPDATE: I'm all done!!
Physics was tiresome...I was up all all Wednesday night.
History was easy, but drawn out. (Just got out of that exam.)
And Engineering turned out to be a Greek tragedy.

San Diego Protest Warriors in Action
We've come up on the four-year anniversary of the invasion of Iraq and what would an anniversary be without the barking moonbats of San Diego coming out of their tin-foil protected homes to protest.
Of course they did and San Diego Protest Warriors were there to point out their foolishness.
Go check it out and especially the photos!!
Sadly, I wasn't able to participate due to preparing for final exams this week and other family commitments that I couldn't blow off. (Actually, I was feeling like crap and my daughter was coming down with some new variant of the 'creeping crud' she picked up at school.)

Boo-Yah from 1986
There was an updated version of this video made using the newer F/A-18 Hornets (the Blue Angels transitioned from the A-4 Skyhawks to the Hornets in 1986).
Which video/aircraft is 'better'? It's hard to say - everyone will have their own preferences. Personally, I have a strong affinity for the graceful A-4 Skyhawks because I grew up seeing the Blues fly every year at NAS Patuxent River and also for the fact that my father flew A-4C Skyhawks off the USS Coral Sea back in the early 1960s.
UPDATE: Been busy lately and just wanted to update this post, mainly because whenever I need a 'boost' to my spirit, I just watch this video. Charges me up every time. Of course the downside is that I miss my father that much more.

well, the Blue Angels are just mind boggling amazing.
|| Posted by nunya, February 23, 2007 09:33 PM ||You've got that 125% correct sir!
|| Posted by Mad Mikey, February 24, 2007 04:24 PM ||Just wish they'd make their way to NC again sometime. Closest they've been, obviously, is in the DC area. Too far to drive for a day trip. Supposedly they will be at Seymore Johnson in May, buut last time they were scheduled, they had to post-pone.
|| Posted by Nunya, February 26, 2007 07:08 PM ||Looks like they will be out your way on March 10th - El Centro if I am not mistaken is about 75 miles east of you. Then the next show in CA isnt til sept. and that is way up north in salinas.
El Centro is where the Blues do their 'winter' training.
Normally, the Blues will fly at MCAS Miramar in October each year; this coming year they'll be skipping Miramar and flying in Hawaii instead. In their place the USAF Thunderbirds will fly instead.
And IMHO, the T-birds do a good show and I'll hopefully be taking my daughter along to see them since they're normally not around this area.
|| Posted by Mad Mikey, February 27, 2007 05:02 PM ||Every year I mark fleet week on the calendar because there is nothing cooler than seeing the Blue Angels zipping around an urban center (San Francisco, in this case). We are fortunate, because my father in law has a boat that he takes out every year, so we get to hang out right under the show in what is arguably one of the most beautiful places on earth. The crazy thing is that every year there is a loud chorus of people complaining about the "war machines" and all the noise they make... hehe
I was born at Travis AFB and lived there for a few years, so I grew up watching the Thunderbirds. Two years ago the Blue Angels skipped fleet week for Hawaii, and the T-birds flew at the Travis air show. They are awesome. Plus they now have two female pilots, I believe (do they call dog fights "bitch fights" instead? ;-)). I never saw the Blue Angels until I lived in San Diego, and I've always been partial to the T-birds. They're both spectacular.
