Was I This Young?

Billy and Michael.jpg

I just got this photo from my sister-in-law who found it while looking through some old photos.

It's a picture of me and my dad the day that I graduated from bootcamp in Orlando back in 1986.

I cannot believe that I was that 'gaunt' looking when I graduated. Yikes!

Child Psychology

We were disenfranchised!!! Waaaaaaahhhhh!!!So....Ter-RAY-zaa said 'I wouldn't be surprised if he appeared in the next month'. Wow - she's psychic. Or more like psycho.

Let's look at this: if the U.S. forces in Afghanistan were to capture Osama bin Laden, then everyone left-of-center would instantly scream 'Ahhh-HAAAA!!' and (falsely) assert that the Bush campaign planned it to get a boost in the polls. Yet if he is not not captured, then those same people would be screaming 'FAILURE!!' much like John Kerry said yesterday.

There is a saying (maybe it's old - I dunno exactly) that's appropriate: they'd bitch if you hung them with a new rope.

IMO the Kerry campaign - and those that just flat-out loathe President Bush in general - act & react to any news much like a spoiled child throwing a temper-tantrum: nothing will get them to shut up and/or be happy.

And do you know what the scary thing is? That in the early hours of Wednesday, November 3rd, when President Bush is declared the winner, that there will be foaming-at-the-mouth and possible riots in some cities because these 'children' can't handle the reality of the election.

Why do I say this?

Cause if for some screwball reason Kerry wins the election, you're not going to see Republicans/Conservatives getting worked up into a frenzy. Yes, they'll be pissed that Bush didn't win but they won't resort to childish tactics to vent their spleens; Dems can almost be counted on to react like spoiled children that are denied their lollipops....

'Hell No'

Yeah Arnold!!

Governor vetoes driver's license bill

'Don't send me any girlie-man bills to sign or I'll CRUSH you!'Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Wednesday vetoed legislation that would have allowed illegal immigrants to apply for California driver's licenses with a terse statement saying the bill did not meet his security concerns.

The Republican governor dispensed with perhaps the most emotionally charged bill on his desk with a four-line veto message.

"One of the most important duties of the governor of a state is to protect its citizens," Schwarzenegger said. "This bill does not adequately address the security concerns that my Department of Homeland Security and I have, and I cannot support it."

The measure, AB 2895 by Assembly Speaker Fabian Núñez, was originally introduced as SB 1160 in the Senate by Sen. Gil Cedillo, D-Los Angeles.

Cedillo, who earlier accused the governor of reneging on a promise to sign a driver's license bill, said he was "disappointed, but I'm not discouraged."

"I disagree with the governor, but I'm prepared to engage him in dialogue on the question of security," he said. "The fact of the matter is 2 million immigrants in California will still be driving tomorrow without a license, and we would have preferred that they were tested, licensed and insured. So this issue doesn't go away."

Cedillo has vowed to introduce another license bill when the Legislature convenes in December. Ten states allow illegal immigrants to drive.

"As the governor might say, 'I'll be back,' " Cedillo said, invoking one of the former actor's best-known movie lines.

In a prepared statement, Núñez said Schwarzenegger's veto message "lacks any clarity with regard to what legislative proposal the governor would find acceptable."

"Considering that he gave his word that he would work with the Legislature on an acceptable bill, we are now back to square one," he said.

'Work with the Legislature on an acceptable bill' means that the license given to undocumented aliens illegals is different than those given to California citizens dork.

I wonder.....just what part of ILLEGAL ALIENS don't the Democrats get!?

UCSD Research on the Cutting Edge

Scripps Prepares to Study the Effects of Alcohol on Everything

'Duuude! This is some strong shit!' exclaim Scripps researchers. The Scripps Institute Neuroscience Department, working in conjunction with the UCSD Psychology department, has researched sleeping behavior, coupling habits, drug use, and alcohol consumption. In preparation for this year’s Sun God Festival, the latter two have been singled out for further study by the Scripps Institute. Dr. Erwin Chesterfield, one of the neuroscientists involved with the project, expressed confidence that the experiment was “gonna be fuckin’ sick.”

Chesterfield continued, saying that “the study aims to test the effects of alcohol and marijuana on students, research assistants, researchers, "Frank’s Rottweiler", a Venus fly trap, several endangered species of fish, and just about everything on the second floor of the Institute.”

Certain legal and ethical dilemmas have been raised about the planned study. “People are asking all sorts of questions,” noted Chesterfield, “questions like, ‘Is feeding a Venus fly trap marijuana like cannibalism?’ and ‘Is there actually such a thing as too many pop-tarts?’”

Researchers have been frequenting psychology, cognitive science, linguistics, environmental science and visual arts courses inviting students to fill out waivers that ask such questions as, “Do you drink alcohol? During a typical week, how many drinks do you have?” and “Do you party? Precisely how hard?”

This data, along with students’ contact information, is being used to select a cross section from the UCSD populace to participate in the research. Students are anxiously awaiting invitations to the much anticipated study.

“I’ve heard those research people are fucking crazy,” confessed Muir Sophomore Brian Nielson. “I heard the last time they studied the effects of alcohol they all ended up naked in a hot tub with some random people they picked up in Pacific Beach and this dude Frank.”

“Goddamn I wanna gather data!” added Nielson.

The Institute’s efforts to study the effects of alcohol have met with more political resistance than their cannabis research. However, the modest school funding they began with—a $7,100 Graduate Student Association bar tab at Porter’s Pub—soon blossomed into an endowment providing enough money for a fully stocked laboratory, plush offices, and Internet-equipped beer helmets.

Although the funding for the project has drastically increased, “it’s still not enough,” commented GSA President Eric Frechette. “That’s why we passed a referendum to raise student fees. It is important research and we can’t go doing it with Popov and Pabst.”

Priceless

Marty wakes up at home with a huge hangover. He forces himself to open his eyes, and the first thing he sees is a couple of aspirins and a glass of water on the side table.

He sits down and sees his clothing in front of him, all clean and pressed. Marty looks around the room and sees that it is in perfect order, spotless, clean. So is the rest of the house.

He takes the aspirins and notices a note on the table.

Honey, breakfast is on the stove, I left early to go shopping. Love You!
So he goes to the kitchen and sure enough there is a hot breakfast and the morning newspaper. His son is also at the table, eating.

Marty asks, "Son, what happened last night?"

His son says, "Well, you came home around 3 AM, drunk and delirious. Broke some furniture, puked in the hallway, and gave yourself a black eye when you stumbled into the door."

Confused, Marty asks, "So, why is everything in order and so clean, and breakfast is on the table waiting for me?"

His son replies, "Oh, that! Mom dragged you to the bedroom, and when she tried to take your pants off, you said, "Lady leave me alone! I'm married!"

Self-induced hangover -- $100.00
Broken furniture -- $2,000.00
Breakfast -- $10.00
Saying The Right Thing While Drunk -- PRICELESS

Myths Debunked, Part Deux

Although this is a re-print of an article from the Dallas Morning News, it does (at least to me) 'fill in some of the blanks' about all of the foaming-at-the-mouth questions concerning President Bush's service in the Texas Air National Guard.

Go give it a read.

You'll either have your thinking confirmed or you'll be thrown into the Pit of Dispair™ over the agony of having what you thought was the 'truth' being smashed to little pieces.

Cough-Sputter-Cough...*indignation*!!

Some people really surprise me in their vitriol. From the *cough* 'prose' that passes for thought from Daily Kos:

LGF is for mentally-ill sadists who live in the basement of Mom's house in the suburbs and own porn videos that feature the (simulated, hopefully) mutilation of women. It's for teenaged guys who read Soldier of Fortune and fantasize about spending their summers "slithering around on their bellies in Survivalist camps in Idaho." It's for people who wished the Klan was still around and influential, for people who used to like David Duke but hate him now that he's sympathetic to Palestine, for people who thought the Columbine massacre was "a good thing that they wish they had been in on."

In short: LGF is sicko-ville deluxe. And irredeemably so. This is Stormfront stuff.

The LGF guys are the kind of guys who would think an AK-47 is the only answer to girls like "Carrie" from "Sex and the City."

Think I'm exaggerating? Check the comments on LGF sometime and view the splendor of people eaten up from the inside by total hate. This is Aryan Nations material.

We tend to think of the Bush Administration as being right-wing, but even they would recognize LGF for the steaming pile of crap it is and not go anywhere near it, simply for fear of being fouled by the odor and moral disease emanating from it.

Huh...sounds like someone needs to check the dosage of their medication....

Bloggers 1, Rather 0

Dan Rather has issued a statement concerning the Killian Memos (via Drudge Report):

Last week, amid increasing questions about the authenticity of documents used in support of a 60 MINUTES WEDNESDAY story about President Bush's time in the Texas Air National Guard, CBS News vowed to re-examine the documents in question—and their source—vigorously. And we promised that we would let the American public know what this examination turned up, whatever the outcome.

Now, after extensive additional interviews, I no longer have the confidence in these documents that would allow us to continue vouching for them journalistically. I find we have been misled on the key question of how our source for the documents came into possession of these papers. That, combined with some of the questions that have been raised in public and in the press, leads me to a point where—if I knew then what I know now—I would not have gone ahead with the story as it was aired, and I certainly would not have used the documents in question.

But we did use the documents. We made a mistake in judgment, and for that I am sorry. It was an error that was made, however, in good faith and in the spirit of trying to carry on a CBS News tradition of investigative reporting without fear or favoritism.

Please know that nothing is more important to us than people's trust in our ability and our commitment to report fairly and truthfully.

Actually, nothing is more important that you appearing to eat your hat to regain some of your lost viewers.

In related news, Bill Burkett is identified as the source of the bogus memos:

Rather this weekend interviewed Bill Burkett, a retired Texas National Guard officials who has been mentioned as a possible source for the documents. His interview will be on "CBS Evening News" on Monday.

CBS said Burkett acknowledged he provided the documents and said he deliberately misled a CBS producer, giving her a false account of their origin to protect a promise of confidentiality to a source.

Does the trail end here with Burkett?

We'll have to wait and see what pops up on the scope....

Filling in the Blanks

The 9/11 Commission ReportMy wife was shopping at CostCo and picked me up a copy of the 9/11 Commisssion Report. Hopefully I'll be able to finish it by the end of this week as the fall quarter at UCSD begins.

So far there's nothing new, but it is nice to read about some of the details that are constantly glossed over by the media. You know, the kind of detail that totally debunks some of the talking points floating around at MoveOn.org like:

MYTH:

"The CIA funded Bin Laden and trained him. It's the CIA's fault for helping Bin Laden!"

TRUTH:

Page 56
"But Bin Ladin and his comrades had their own sources of support and training, and they received little or no assistance from the United States23"

23. In his memoir, Ayman al Zawahiri contemptuously rejects the claim tha the Arab mujahideen were financed (even "one penny") or trained by the United States.

I doubt that reading the 9/11 Commission Report will shead any new light on what I know of the attacks three years ago, but it will clarify some of the more....potent BS that keeps getting recycled by the foaming-at-the-mouth demographic of American society.

More myth debunking as I come across it later.
