I think the INS is missing a golden opportunity here to round up some illegals... All the INS has to do is show up at these rallies, with a little National Guard reinforements, and they could round up quite a few illegals?

I won't swear to this, but I seem to recall hearing something about INS raids this morning on FoxNews.

It would an ideal time to conduct some arrests.....muaahahahahhhahaaaa!!!!

LA is definitely not shut down.

I've got family living in Pueblo and they've always observed that the Hispanic community there was typically conservative i.e., that they probably wouldn't participate in this type of crap.

A radio jock here in the SF Bay Area - a conservative (gasp!) - has been calling it "Mow Your Own Lawn Day". All of the calls he's been getting have been about how nice it is going into restaurants and not hearing the Spanish language "chatter", etc. The commute today was awesome, both ways.

Personally, my impact was GOOD. Thank you sir, may I have another? How about we do this every Monday?

I don't get it. I mean, what's the issue here? There are people here illegally, and what's the cost to us, versus the benefit. I've never really understood this issue, because so many people have knee-jerk reactions to it, probably because it has the word "Illegal" in it.

I don't get it, I really don't. I expect a bunch of you to call me an idiot, but I'm hoping at least one of you will take the time to form a cogent argument so I can get some kind of understanding of it all. Explain it to me.

Okay Hank....

For starters: border security. Not only are these illegals crossing the border, but God knows who else, i.e. terrorist(s).

Second: the cost to taxpayers for illegals use of hospitals emergency rooms for common problems. I don't know about you, but it's annoying that *I* have to pay for health care while illegals get it gratis.

Third: While the United States isn't the most popular nation on the planet, we're still a sovereign nation and our borders & laws should still be respected.

I'm sure there are more reasons, but these three should work for the moment.

Okay, I get that first one. Border securoty in this country is in serious trouble. I'm not so convinced about the second one, but I'll look into it (I've lost my own healthcare thanks to a flagging economy, so I'm sorta in that same boat). #3, I'm with.

1. Hurts American and legal immigrant poor. The canard "they take jobs no Americans will take" is crap. It's all supply and demand. When the labor supply is illegally increased with uncontrolled foreign labor, the pay for those jobs drops. You hear all the time that Americans won't do "stoop work" - picking fruits and veggies. Really? Well, the proponents of the illegals themselves state that illegals make up 25% of the pickers. Hmmmm. Who makes up the rest????

2. We're a land of laws. Their first act in our country is to break our first laws. Staying here compounds the offense. No dice. Especially to the "give preference to those that have been here the longest" crowd. These people have been the most egregious offenders. You don't reward that type of behavior by moving them to the front of the line, unless it's on a chain-gange.

3. The economic cost. It is estimated that the Feds are (supposedly)in the black, as they get Social Security and income tax with almost no expense. The states get hosed, having to pick up the welfare, health, etc. costs. Hospitals closing. Schools bursting at the seams. In LA county alone, last year, the cost for just the kids of the illegals was $276 MILLION. That's obscene.

4. Public safety. Aside from the radical muslim threat, there are just plain old criminals coming over. 29% of the population in our federal prisons are illegal aliens.

LA's cost of schooling illegals? That's got to be a mistake. As i understand it, the illegal population is estimated at being 11 million people, so only a fraction of them will be of school age, and a fraction of that will be in L.A.

Unless they are handing out rolexes at the school on a daily basis - which I, personally, have a problem with.

About #4, i think crime goes with poverty - in any community, it's the desperately poor that resort to criminal endeavors first. But the terrorist threat - that's a strong point. As far as taxes go, if these migrants did pay taxes, they'd get it all back - cause they are so poor!

I think a bigger problem than the illegals is the folks that employ them - and those folks should be prosecuted - if there's no job, people won't come.

Who cares about the reasons for them being criminals? I certainly don't. They come here and end up in our jails, again on our dime. They're criminals, and need to be deported instead of warehoused in our prisons.

You hit the nail on the head about how to fix the problem, though. We need to see perp-walks by the CEO's of ConAgra, Chlie's Restaurants, Tyson meats on the nightly news. We need to see the $10K per head fines being imposed. The jobs will dry up over night. It will be self-deportation.
