Somebody said that carrier pilots were the best in the world, and they must be or there wouldn't be any of them left alive. And here's why....— Ernie Pyle
There was an updated version of this video made using the newer F/A-18 Hornets (the Blue Angels transitioned from the A-4 Skyhawks to the Hornets in 1986).
Which video/aircraft is 'better'? It's hard to say - everyone will have their own preferences. Personally, I have a strong affinity for the graceful A-4 Skyhawks because I grew up seeing the Blues fly every year at NAS Patuxent River and also for the fact that my father flew A-4C Skyhawks off the USS Coral Sea back in the early 1960s.
UPDATE: Been busy lately and just wanted to update this post, mainly because whenever I need a 'boost' to my spirit, I just watch this video. Charges me up every time. Of course the downside is that I miss my father that much more.

well, the Blue Angels are just mind boggling amazing.

Supposedly they will be at Seymore Johnson in May, buut last time they were scheduled, they had to post-pone.
|| Posted by Nunya, February 26, 2007 07:08 PM ||Looks like they will be out your way on March 10th - El Centro if I am not mistaken is about 75 miles east of you. Then the next show in CA isnt til sept. and that is way up north in salinas.
El Centro is where the Blues do their 'winter' training.
Normally, the Blues will fly at MCAS Miramar in October each year; this coming year they'll be skipping Miramar and flying in Hawaii instead. In their place the USAF Thunderbirds will fly instead.
And IMHO, the T-birds do a good show and I'll hopefully be taking my daughter along to see them since they're normally not around this area.
|| Posted by Mad Mikey, February 27, 2007 05:02 PM ||Every year I mark fleet week on the calendar because there is nothing cooler than seeing the Blue Angels zipping around an urban center (San Francisco, in this case). We are fortunate, because my father in law has a boat that he takes out every year, so we get to hang out right under the show in what is arguably one of the most beautiful places on earth. The crazy thing is that every year there is a loud chorus of people complaining about the "war machines" and all the noise they make... hehe
I was born at Travis AFB and lived there for a few years, so I grew up watching the Thunderbirds. Two years ago the Blue Angels skipped fleet week for Hawaii, and the T-birds flew at the Travis air show. They are awesome. Plus they now have two female pilots, I believe (do they call dog fights "bitch fights" instead? ;-)). I never saw the Blue Angels until I lived in San Diego, and I've always been partial to the T-birds. They're both spectacular.
