My grandma was on dialysis for 23 years. My grandpa put her on the machine in their own home. It always amazed me when she'd get up and cook dinner right after treatment.
It's that time again - April 2nd is this Sunday and it's also the first Sunday of the month.....San Diego Protest Warrior will be hosing another Operation Thank You at Balboa Park once again.
The operation will commence starting at 11:30 am at the corner of President's Way and Park Blvd.
Join us in staking out the corners of the intersection to wave American flags and signs thanking the United States military for protecting our freedoms - especially in stark contrast to what the ladies (and spooky guys) of CodePink attempt to do in that general area.

Bring a flag, your kids, a picnic, a big smile and a grateful heart...trust me, this event will put a spring in your step for days!
I'll be posting an after-action report on yesterday's event, along with some photos as soon as I can find my &%*^$ cable to download the ^(&(^ photos from the camera.
SIDE NOTE: We'll be indulging in.....chili dawgs tonight.
Mmmmmmmmmm.....chili dogs. [\Homer Simpson]
UPDATE: Okay, okay - this time I'm really going to post photos tomorrow.
I finally found the cable and after getting some work done tomorrow morning (I'm helping my wife with some small 'chores' that she needs done for her business) I'll be putting some up with appropriate captioning.

Hey Mikey!
I'm so glad to hear that you pulled through and can eat chili dogs now. Even if you are a wingnut I love you anyway.
Got a question for some of you - especially Jim: would my switching to peritoneal dialysis be a better choice than sticking with hemodialysis?
I'm seriously considering switching because of a condition known as neuropathy that is getting worse with each dialysis treatment - so bad that there are times when I purposefully request to be taken off the HD machine before I'm supposed to; most dialysis days I will end up going home and just climbing into bed because my feet are hurting so much.
So....any one got any thoughts on this? My understanding is that with PD the treatments are much easier on the body but are not as....thorough.
(Sorry to whine about this......I'm starting to really dread going to treatments....)

If your Dr. says you're a good candidate for it, GO FOR IT!
I hated Hemo Dialysis!
If you can get over the "EW Factor" of having a chunk of plastic hanging out your abdomen, you'll be pretty happy with it. A lot more control over your treatments, better diet, better schedule, more freedom overall! I had Fresenious as my supplier for all my supplies, and they had a vacation plan, to where they'd ship a machine out, and all the supplies to just about any location! All I had to do was give them 2 weeks notice, and an address to ship to...
Questions to ask your Nephrologist:
What happens if my PD stops being effective? (this was my problem after about 3yrs...)
There's a lot of training to get used to as well...

Since November 2004.
The HD treatments seem a lot more....'brutal' since I got out of the hospital three weeks ago....
|| Posted by Mad Mikey, March 29, 2006 01:16 PM ||I can imagine! You've been through a lot in the last couple of months! give yourself a little time to heal.
My adequacy levels started dropping about prety close to the time I got approval for my transplant! Talk about timing being everything!

Chops Tool
Just got something to help me in regaining my 'chops' on my bass: a Gripmaster
With the help of a friend of mine, I picked up one with a 'medium' tension at the Guitar Center here in San Diego.
Not only is it helpful in getting back into playing bass, it's also useful for overall thearpy in getting strength back into my hands.
