Got a question for some of you - especially Jim: would my switching to peritoneal dialysis be a better choice than sticking with hemodialysis?
I'm seriously considering switching because of a condition known as neuropathy that is getting worse with each dialysis treatment - so bad that there are times when I purposefully request to be taken off the HD machine before I'm supposed to; most dialysis days I will end up going home and just climbing into bed because my feet are hurting so much.
So....any one got any thoughts on this? My understanding is that with PD the treatments are much easier on the body but are not as....thorough.
(Sorry to whine about this......I'm starting to really dread going to treatments....)

I hated Hemo Dialysis!
If you can get over the "EW Factor" of having a chunk of plastic hanging out your abdomen, you'll be pretty happy with it. A lot more control over your treatments, better diet, better schedule, more freedom overall! I had Fresenious as my supplier for all my supplies, and they had a vacation plan, to where they'd ship a machine out, and all the supplies to just about any location! All I had to do was give them 2 weeks notice, and an address to ship to...
Questions to ask your Nephrologist:
What happens if my PD stops being effective? (this was my problem after about 3yrs...)
There's a lot of training to get used to as well...

The HD treatments seem a lot more....'brutal' since I got out of the hospital three weeks ago....

My adequacy levels started dropping about prety close to the time I got approval for my transplant! Talk about timing being everything!
