I missed something, didn't I? Well, my congratulations to Scott, and I hope it means better and better things as time goes by.
Furthermore, I hope his current tour of duty is productive. Not to mention without casualty, to himself and to the men and women under his command. (I know I could phrase it better, but I'm sure you all know what I mean.)
I can' t find the story, but I heard this morning (or rather read on the net) that SWWNBN said she'd rather live under Hugo Chavez in Venezuela.
Michelle Malkin scouted out some one-way tickets on Expedia for her and if I had any money, I'd seriously consider kicking down some $$$ to help SWWNBN get on her merry way!!
I really wish a ticket could be procurred for her......let her see what an 'evil' empire America really is......I've always said that if anyone seriously thinks that we're a repressive nation that they should pick their favorite Third-World Sh*t Hole and live there for a few months.
Star Hollywood actor-activists including Sean Penn and Susan Sarandon and anti-war campaigners led by bereaved mother Cindy Sheehan plan to launch a hunger strike, demanding the immediate return of US troops from Iraq.
As Americans get set to fire up barbeques in patriotic celebration of US Independence Day on July 4, anti-war protestors planned to [savor] a last meal outside the White House, before embarking on a 'Troops Home Fast' at midnight.
"We've marched, held vigils, lobbied Congress, camped out at Bush's ranch, we've even gone to jail, now it's time to do more," said Sheehan, who emerged as an anti-war icon after losing her 24-year-old son Casey in Iraq.
The hunger strike was the latest bid by the US anti-war movement to grab hold of American public opinion, after numerous marches, vigils and political campaigns.
But what is just......typical of Hollywood is this:
Other supporters, including Penn, Sarandon, novelist Alice Walker and actor Danny Glover will join a 'rolling" fast, a relay in which 2,700 activists pledge to refuse food for at least 24 hours, and then hand over to a comrade.
Now that is dedication to a cause......a rolling hunger strike......cause it's understandable how a hunger strike can interfere with having a fabulous dinner at some swank restaurant where you haver to be 'seen'.
I think that all of these Hollywood activists attention-seekers have just remanded themselves to the 'Pet Rock' category of silliness.
It is their right to protest in any legal way they choose. If they are against the war, they have to freedom to say so publicly. And I have the right to never contribute a dime to the livelihood of any of these twits again. That has been my practice for the last several years. The only way we can make our displeasure felt is by hitting them where it counts, in the numbers and in the pocketbook. I will not go to ANY movie in which any of these fools has a part. I will not rent any video or even watch on TV anything in which any of these buffoons has a part. In fact, there are so many actors on my shit list, it sometimes gets tough to find a movie to watch. But, that's what it takes to get the point across. It's called freedom of choice, and when added to capitalism, it's a powerful message. Try it.
The 'down' side to that (at least in my case) is that while *I* might not choose to see any of these moron's movies, it has an unforeseen impact: my kid misses out on some of those movies.
In one case that comes to mind: Johnny Depp and the soon-to-be-released 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest'. My kid has been waiting for this movie to come out and we're not gonna disappoint her.
For me, it's a hard process to not bring to mind some of the more inane comments that some of these stars have muttered while watching anything they're in and it's more difficult to rectify my personal feelings about these people when deciding what movie to take my daughter to; I vowed long ago to not place what I'd deem 'not worth seeing' on my kid - just like I'd never *make* my kid attend a Protest Warrior event.
As far as Susan Sarandon is concerned - she's off my list and luckily, she isn't in any Disney movie that I'm aware of, so I don't have to worry about attempting to tell my kid "No honey, we're not going to see such-n-such a movie cause so-and-so is starring in it".
I think that this is a GREAT idea... The "rolling" fast. That is just the sort of protest that the majority of our couch-potato, do-nothing society can really "sink it's teeth into" (but not during their 24-hour pity-fest). Who do theseheadline-grabbing "stars" think they are fooling?? While our people are fighting and dying to attemt to insure a safer world for them, all they can thing is "How can I tweak this war to get myself into the public eye??" You will also note that the vast majority of these "stars" are pretty well washed-up actors who have no other way to keep their faces in front of the camera. I wish "natural selection" worked in Hollywood...
P.S. Mikey... I hope you have recovered from our little vacation to L.A...
Keep your eyes out for the "Rolling Pig-out". An effort dedicated to showing support for our people in the fight against terrorists (etc.) by having a good, hearty meal. If my anti-depressent wasn't such a good appetite suppressor I'd take part. I do plan on having a pan-baked steak in a few hours.

TWO hundred and thrity years ago today, on a hot afternoon in Philadelphia, 56 men signed the Declaration of Independence and severed all ties with the King of England.
Under the penalty of death, they wrote:
...we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.
For those men.....those Founding Fathers, it was all or nothing - they would no longer sit by and take the abuse that they and their fellow colonists had endured for the last 30 years. They had tried to work within the 'system' - that being the Parliament in London - until they could no longer stand it.
They took it and took it and took it some more and with a great deal of debate, discussion, arguing, and finally with a great deal of resolve, they signed this document and changed the face of the (then) modern world. Some would argue that it was for the worse, but most would solemnly vow that it was for the better and began the process.....the journey of what no one can argue has become the most sucessful nation state on this planet.
Two hundred and thirty years is a long time and the United States has changed since that time. The people that comprise the American culture have also changed but deep down most Americans will say that this document was and still is the defining declaration that a people that are oppressed in such a manner will no longer stand around and simply take it. These men were saying to the King of England and to the Parliament:

One aspect of the Founding Fathers signing this was John Hancock's signature.
It was bold, it was on top, and it was larger than anyone else's signature.
Some would say that it was his ego that prompted him to do such a thing - it wasn't. He did what he did when signing the Declaration of Independence because he was basically daring the King and Parliament to try and take him down.
I like it because while he and the other 51 men were risking death in a most painful manner should they fail, he was making the statement: try and take us down.....I dare you.
I remember seeing this piece of history in the National Archives when I was a kid (I grew up in the D.C. area), but it didn't make an impact on me then. These days....I get chills down my spine every time I look at it.
Every time.
With the extended life that God has granted me since I suffered my stroke, I vow to journey with my family soon to see this once again and to try and teach my daughter about the significance of it and what it means to be an American.
I can't say I read a lot of his stuff - it was a little difficult to follow at times - but I do know that he could 'zing' out insults like it was an art form.
