UPDATE: I guess this qualifies for Cat Blogging Friday!
UPDATE II: I had to substitute this photo because it was being hotlinked by some assknobs here.
It took me a little while to find this post - I guess I initially did it on one of those days where there wasn't much to blog about......I'd usually look through the YahooNews photos to find something usually funny like this lion snearing at the man through the window.

Dependence on Foreign Oil Continues
Oh, by all means let's continue our additiction to foreign oil. Dipsticks.
Well, I can some-what understand that.....fear from having oil rigs right off the coast and the constant quasi-threat of an oil spill. But just like when a proposal to build a new refinery comes up - everyone instantly freaks out and kills the idea in true NIMBYism.
Here's hoping that should the price of oil jump suddenly and were facing $5 per gallon that these House members remember this vote and maybe also that their supporters can't fork over big donations cause they're taking out a second mortgage to fill their gas tanks.

don't worry Mikey - they'll get the money from the oil companies instead.
consider the situation right now - the voting public is in a very amenable mood to setting up oil derricks all over the place, but the incumbents still won't take the bait. they have to be getting pressure - big pressure - from people who have no interest in seeing the price of oil or gas fall.
to put it another way: Why would Exxon WANT to re-invest their profits in new operations off the coast? it's a lot easier to pay politicians to 'restrict' their operations - and that of any potential competitors - than it is to re-construct all the platforms they tore down 25 years ago.
|| Posted by dan, May 19, 2006 09:50 PM ||Or how about this novel idea - don't depend on oil much or at all. Why the hell can Brazil do it and we can't? Why should we continue to suck oil when we can never satisfy our appetities?
|| Posted by nunya, May 20, 2006 12:28 PM ||You guys seem to have one idea right - it is all because the oil companies profit from it.
Why would they want to do something as silly as washing the tanks out, filling it with ethanol or an ethanol-petrol mix while they build in the hydrogen tanks and pumps? Yes, why would we do something silly like that? As long as there 10bil a quarter profits to be made, there will be oil and there will be war over it.
Nunya,
You're right - ethanol would be the way to go....especially after Brazil has made it appear to work.
I say 'appear' as while Brazil's sucess seems solid, I'm no expert on the long-term implications of ethanol use versus gasoline.
The problem is what you've said: too much profit to be made in oil; America's energy 'economy' would get.....'raped' (for lack of a better phrase) if we tried to quickly switch to alternatives to oil.
It'll take something massive to get the ball rolling in that direction and providing that the equivalent ethanol price per gallon isn't something insane like $6.00 a gallon, I'll embrace it and switch over myself.

USS Oriskany Becomes a Reef
This is never an easy thing to watch - especially if its your ship that's being made into an artificial reef:

I remember a couple of occasions where my Dad's old ship, the Midway, nearly became an off-shore island.
I wonder how long it'll be before the Oriskany has rusted away.

Shaking & Quaking
Should the West be 'quaking in its boots'?
What'll they do if *cough* aid isn't restored? Fire some more rockets into Israel? Send some more homicide bombers to kill innocent civilians? Burn some more flags?Talk about a tiny kitten getting all puffed up....
UPDATE: It would seem that the Palestinians are serious in their anger. Beware the kitten with claws:
Well, I'm guessing that this means that the Palestinians are serious and that we'd better bow to thethreat of homicide bombers killing innocent civilianshumanitarian need and send themmillionsbillions in *cough* humanitarian aid.Oh please.....would someone tell the Palestinians about the dangers of huffing industrial cleaning agents?

Hotlinking Assknobs
Rob over at Left & Right has been having trouble with assknobs stealing his bandwidth by 'hotlinking' photos from his site.
Well, Rob dealt with the problem in a manner that is fitting and I too have taken to utilizing his method.
If you're one of the assknobs from MySpace that came back wondering why those photos you've glommed onto have changed, then here's your one warning:
Take the offending HTML code off your site immediately or you'll find gay porn there.
Here's one of those asshats and the 'updated' image (about half-way down the page listed under 'Heroes'.....
Here's another assknob - and this clown cannot even insert the HTML code correctly! What a moron....

I guess all my myspace traffic stood out apart from your 1 or 2 hits a day that your use to. Sorry that I linked a picture my friend.

Comprehensive? Doh!
From CNN:
All of this amounts to a 10 lb bag of cricket crap from Dicker & Dicker of Beverely Hills. What really boggles me about the administration's approach to dealing with border security is that it would seem that even if there were 15 people standing on the President's desk and screaming until they were blue-in-the-face and they'd still not listen.
I'm guessing that come November the American people will make their disgust known and it'll hurt the GOP. And they'll have no one to blame except themselves.
UPDATE: And of course, Mexico reacts in a spaz-like manner:
Yes indeed - they might take some sort of action like.....nothing.Trackback Information for Comprehensive? Doh!

This letter appered in this Monday's issue of The Guardian which is UCSD's student newspaper. And it floored me:
I hadn't heard about this professor desecrating the American flag last year nor recently until I read this letter.I personally do not like seeing this happen and YES, I am aware that it's legal to do this childish stunt because of 'freedom of speech'. However, IMHO when someone resorts to desecrating an American flag it is only because they cannot formulate a decent argument. And like a child resorting to throwing a temper tantrum, they de-evolve into a primate-type intellect and do this.
I know that I'll never have to take a class with this Sociology clown of a professor and that's fine by me as I probably would learn nothing from sitting there watching someone who is supposedly educated act like a rogue chimpanzee screaching and flinging its poo around its cage.
And the other sad part of this is that these kids were compelled to sit there and observe it out of fear of failing the class.
Yup - nothing says teaching like a captive audience.....
Here is Biernacki's website at UCSD.

Speechless
This left me utterly speechless:
I know they've only been indicted and they're 'innocent until proven guilty', but I am just speechless. What sort of a man would ingage in such behavior - especially with a newborn baby? And what sort of woman would condone this when her own child is involved?I can only hope that they are both found guilty and sent to prison for life. A life sentence served while living in the general prison population would be the only fitting punishment.
