Mikey's surgery begins around 7am. Say a prayer!
The bone flap will be replaced and he will no longer have the sunken pit in his head.
By the way, he loved the jokes.

I finally got up the nerve to go and visit Mikey now that he's out of the ICU and the wires are gone. I was enormously surprised and almost overwhelmed with how terrific he looks. I mean, he really looks good. He's lost the yellow glow and all but one of the wires/tubes. He was sitting up and fully awake. He'd had the bone flap put back so there's lots of bandages and white tape, but honestly, for all the world, he looks just like our Mikey. He didn't have his glasses on so he had a hard time identifying who I was until I gloved/gowned up and walked into his range of view...then the Mikey smile came out and he held up his hands for me to grasp.
His voice is stronger than I expected but still quite soft. His eyes were bloodshot (I asked about alcohol and he longingly said "I wish!")and he's lost a TON of weight. He's quite gaunt but by golly...he's our Mikey. He had a terrible headache from the surgery (and the nurse came along to deliver a nice jolt of drugs into the IV at his third request).
I asked about duck season and he wasn't exactly sure what I was referring to. I told him the story of his own duck sightings and he just chuckled. He couldn't stop gushing about his love for Mrs. Mikey and their daughter. We chatted for quite a while and then he decided it was time to sit up and dangle his legs...so I helped him. There we sat, our legs dangling over the edge of the bed when Mrs. Mikey appeared. She hasn't looked so relaxed or happy since all of this started and her face was glowing with the joy of seeing her Mikey. She didn't even mind that I was in bed with him...lol
He told me that he was having a bit of a challenge in figuring out what was real and what he was imagining (see previous entries on ducks...lol). He said that he hadn't seen any news yet but that he'd watched "The Daily Show" on Monday night and wanted to know something. I said "sure...what??" He said "is it true that Dick Cheney SHOT someone???" I laughed and said yup, that's real. Even Amy wasn't sure because they'd only seen the parody news of the Daily Show. We had quite a few laughs about that and duck season.
It was time for me to leave the happy couple. I hugged them both (gently) and blew kisses as I walked away. Then I cried all the way home.
Mikey is coming back to us and he looks TERRIFIC.
