I'm currently reading 'The Da Vinci Code' by Dan Brown.
I had been wondering what all the.....commotion about the book was all about, so I decided to read it.
When I told my wife that I was thinking about buying the book, she immediately said YES, BUY IT! - it turns out that she wants to read it too so I'm plowing through it quickly when I go to dialysis.
I should be done with it by next week - I'll try to form a decent review of the book.....so far, it's interesting, specifically the interesting math/number facts involved in the history/back-story involving Da Vinci.
UPDATE: Just finished the book yesterday at dialysis.
Over all, I thought it was an entertaining novel; I especially liked the cryptological aspects of the story. Of course, it's the geek in me.
The ending of the story wasn't quite what I thought it would be, but it was still a 'page-turner'.
UPDATE II / ADDED TWIST: I was contacted by a reporter from the San Diego Union-Tribune - she wanted to interview me about what I thought of the book.
I'll keep my eyes open for the article and try to post a link to the article when it appears.....

Let me be the first to welcome you to this Site Dean. I'll also be the first in line here to say quite loudly "SHUT THE F*** UP!"
Don't you libs have any real substantive things to say, other than the BushHitler/War For Oil/Lies mantra? It's getting old dude.... Go hug a tree already, and lose the anger. It's wasted here..
|| Posted by Tetzman, April 21, 2006 09:11 AM ||Dingle Berry,
Wow....I'm impressed - you wrote that all in CAPS which means that you're M-A-D.
As for your ignorant questions, maybe you might want to READ.
Save us all the trouble and don't come back - you obviously have nothing of substance to say and you obviously aren't in a good situation if you're staying at a Motel 6 (you leave a digital footprint when you come around fool).
I'll leave your comment up as it is so that everyone can see what a fool you really are; I'll refrain from editing it to make it look like you really dig getting your freak on with puppies or sheep.

|| Posted by Tetzman, April 21, 2006 12:30 PM ||Well, apart from all the other entertaining comments...I'll speak something on Da Vinci Code.
Dan Brown has a very good knowledge of medieval history. His knowledge of early church history...sucks.

All that aside, however, it's still a highly entertaining story.
|| Posted by Nathan Wazoo, April 21, 2006 11:15 PM ||Okay, reading that post, I realize it's unnecessarily confusing. Let me sum up, for those who don't get a kick out of church history:

Point is: the Catholic Church was weak until centuries after Christ. They couldn't have had as much pull as Brown claims. Not even close.

Oh yeah, I've seen this type of troll all over the net.
At first, you think that you *might* be able to have a discussion/debate with him/her/it, but they won't respond to civil discussion - they'll just keep typing in CAPS....ranting about non-related topics and you end up banning them.
Well, I decided to save myself some trouble: he banned.
Nathan: thanks for spoiling the book for everyone. Luckily, I'm a fast reader and was well into the book before I read your spoliers.
I'm going to edit those comments and you're more than welcome to post about it after I'm done reading the book.
Thanks for your cooperation.
|| Posted by Mad Mikey, April 22, 2006 12:13 PM ||My apologies...but the part I was talking about is hardly central to the story.
|| Posted by Nathan Wazoo, April 22, 2006 10:02 PM ||Mikey,
Just flipped over from the "Day by Day" site. Only have one thing to say: Get well. We need guys like you to say it like it is.
Also: COOL HAIRCUT.

HEY NAZI PUSS.
- No no no... the Nazis are german. From the 30's.
WHY THE MEDICAL BILLS? DEPLETED URANIUM. YOU'RE SO IMPORTANT TO THAT SATANIST G. WIMP BUSH. HAVEN'T YOU REALIZED THAT BY NOW?
- GWB was not the president during the 1st gulf war. Try to keep up plz.
WHY DOES YOUR KIND WANT TO GO TO HELL SO BADLY?
- To get away from christians... but of course, that plan might not be as foolproof as we may think...
DO YOU ACTUALLY THINK YOU CAN MURDER PEOPLE FOR OIL AND THE LORD JESUS CHRIST WILL JUST TURN HIS HEAD THE OTHER WAY?
- We murder the people for fun, not oil. The oil is merely a fringe benefit. Remember that. Also, Jesus Christ is in no way in charge of admittance to heaven.
CONFUSATIVES ARE SUCH THROROUGH FOOLS. YOU NEED TO WAKE UP.
- Wake up to what, exactly?
YOU NEED TO GROW UP.
- And stop typing in CAPS like a fucking 12 year old in the throes of a prepubescant hormone fit.
YOU'RE NOT PLAYING A VIDEO GAME, NAZ.
- yes... this is not a video game. This is not one of those places where you are the good guy, and everyone else is a nazi. Life is a wee bit more different than BF 1942

This is one of the rare cases where I am going to wait for the movie before I read the book. It just seems the story seems more suited for the big screen than it does on rag.
I am more interested in the fact that is buried in the story than the ficiton. I mean Jesus was a very devout Jew and very steeped in tradition - most people do not understand this, in fact many Christians deny Jesus was Jewish at all. I tell them, besides the fact that he went to a rabbinical seminary and was highly respected as a young student and shortly thereafter as a rabbi by the elders, why do folks not think of Jesus as a Jew? But I digress, the fact that he was steeped in tradition makes it a very debatable point that he was in fact married and did in fact have children.
One theory is that mary magdalen was his most trusted apostle and not really his wife/girlfriend. The problem with this theory is that even as radical as Jesus was, it was still very much a culture of Men first women second. Jesus very much loved Mary and one of his philosophies children Jewish traditions was to allow the wife to be more involved in the relgious rituals (i.e. eating and drinking with the men, praying with the men, etc.) - much how the Catholic traditions are today (Catholic masses almost completely mirror Jeiwsh ceremonies other than the communion and what not and of cours,e allowing women to pray too) only recently, did the non orthodox Jewish rleigions allow women to pray along side of men.
Sorry for the big long paragraph, but these kinds of things fascinate me. Anyone who challenges the foundations of religions to the very core is something rare and very much welcomed as far as I am concerned.

I wonder if his Cyber works have the same affliction.

I come across this site, and I read about the Da Vinci Code, a book I've been wanting to read for a while (strange for a 14-year-old, yea?)...

|| Posted by ruthie, April 28, 2006 08:31 PM ||Good book..are you going to see the movie? I thought he could have ended the book in a better way, but it was still enjoyable. Unfortunately, I am in the midst of having to write a paper comparing and contrasting stories of Jesus in the synoptic gospels to those of Elijah and Elisha in Kings. Jeez.
How's by you, friend? I hope your toe is feeling better by now. As far as school...can you take classes online? I take some of mine online, and in fact, I'm taking 2 online this summer. It might work for you..you participate on your own schedule.
anyway, good to see you are up and about.
Yogs...that was a great response you put in earlier. How've you been? (you are Yogi from the old San diego board, yes?) anyway, good to see you
Thanks Ruthie.
Classes online? Not at UCSD....at least, not in the engineering field. Maybe for COMM majors, but not for me. I'll probably be taking the summer off for two reasons:
(1) Summer classes are about $550 for one class and that assuming that there are any engineering classes available that I need.
(2) Mikey is in serious need of down-time this summer.
