Citizen Smash spreads the word about San Diego Protest Warrior and our Victory Vigils here in San Diego:
WHILE OUR SOLDIERS fighting overseas are asking their commanders whether the people back home still support their mission, some of our neighbors choose to mark the 229th anniversary of our nation’s independence by calling for a “Flag Burning Day.”Now more than ever, it’s important for Americans to express our patriotism, and support for our military. It’s time for another Victory Vigil!
Who: Anyone who wants to come, including children.
What: A “Victory Vigil” prior to Saturday’s Padres-Giants game.
When: Saturday, July 2, 4:00 – 6:30pm
Where: The corner of 10th Ave. & “C” St., downtown San Diego
Why: To express support for our military, and counter the defeatist message of local anti-military activists.
How: With flags, banners, and positive patriotic messages of our own.
A year ago, a group of San Diego Protest Warriors overwhelmed an anti-war protest near this location, turning it into a “support the troops” rally. In the words of KNSD (NBC) reporter Steve Walker:
…It began as an anti-war protest, but turned into a pro-troop "Victory Vigil" downtown today. The San Diego Coalition for Peace and Justice protested at 10th and "A" Streets. They’re against the war in Iraq, and skeptical of the handover of power.
But the tables turned on them today, when others turned out to support American troops, and the handover of sovereignty. The counter-protestors say they stand by the war in Iraq...Come join us this year, and we’ll do it all over again. Think of it as a warm up for the Fourth of July - bring your family, friends, and neighbors!
