Big fun in San Diego:
More Than 346,000 Homes Evacuated in San Diego CountyAnd that's a record for San Diego: 513,000 people displaced. Over one half of a million people. That is a big-ass number!SAN DIEGO — More than 346,000 homes in San Diego have been ordered evacuated after a dozen wildfires displaced more than a half million people in Southern California, destroying hundreds of homes and businesses and forcing federal officials to assist firefighting efforts.
In San Diego County alone, 513,000 people have evacuated, said county spokesman Luis Monteagudo.
By day three, the fires had burned at least 245,957 acres, or 384 square miles — an area larger than New York City. Tuesday's forecast called for hotter temperatures and more explosive Santa Ana gusts.
It's kind of weird here at my house - there is hardly no people out of their houses....no one walking their dogs, no joggers. Granted, I live on sort of a cul-de-sac that doesn't have a lot of traffic even when there aren't fires, but it's still weird.
My daughter's school was cancelled yesterday and today and I just now heard that it's closed for the rest of the week. Needless to say, she's thrilled about it!! (Now maybe I can get her to clean her room.....) UC San Diego was also closed Monday and today; whether or not there will be any classes in the rest of the week will probably be announced this afternoon; I can't see them actually having classes this week since a huge chunk of the students commute from other parts of the county.....too many people might be cut off and it would probably be best if they just said 'screw it' for the week.
We have some friends of ours that had to evacuate their houses up in Poway and their staying with us; the wife and daughter are with us now and the husband was activated along with the rest of his National Guard military police unit to assist with the emergency here in San Diego.
I don't see the fire getting anywhere near us, but we've got a pile of bags and stuff ready to be thrown into the back of my truck and off we'll go if it comes to it.

Aren't you glad I didn't show up too? You'd have been beyond capacity, my friend. Hope your other friends have made it back home. We're back in now and the air has cleared considerably. Ran AC during the day and now don't need to. It's actually pretty nice at the moment.

Fire within 500 feet of Mom's back door...lots and lots of scary moments with her evacuation. Boss's house also close but safe. Trying to keep everyone safe and sane kept me extremely busy. Today, I am just extremely thankful. All of my duckies are safe and accounted for.
